Skin Tightening Q & A

What is the best skin tightening treatment?

At their Glendale location, Pure Touch Skin Center uses the Candela elōs Plus® system for skin tightening, photofacials, and acne scar treatment. Many medical aesthetics experts call the elōs Plus system the gold standard for skin tightening and renewal because it delivers radiofrequency, laser, and pulsed light treatments based on your skin needs. For skin tightening, your treatment specialist uses radiofrequency energy.

Radiofrequency energy delivers low-level heat to your medium and deeper skin layers. This starts the tissue remodeling process, in which your body compresses and reconfigures existing collagen and starts new collagen growth. The more collagen you make, the tighter and firmer your skin grows. Radiofrequency skin tightening can also reduce the appearance of cellulite quite effectively.

You can get skin tightening for many areas, including your face, upper arms (bat wings), neck, double chin, and tummy. Radiofrequency skin tightening is usually painless, and many patients say it feels similar to a massage. There’s no downtime afterward.

Radiofrequency skin tightening occurs gradually, usually over 3-4 months. Most men and women get around 6-10 total treatments, with each session taking around 20 minutes.

What is a photofacial?

A photofacial uses the elōs Plus system’s intense pulsed light (IPL) handpiece to reduce dark spots, freckles, broken blood vessels, and other skin discoloration. This treatment also stimulates new collagen growth to subtly smooth and plump your skin.

During a photofacial, the IPL targets skin discoloration, triggering unwanted pigment to break down. Similarly, the IPL pulses target blood vessels like spider veins on the nose to force their closure.

While the face is the most popular area for photofacial, the IPL technology is also highly effective in other areas, including the arms, hands, legs, and chest. Usually, treatment takes 30 minutes or less, and you can often see results within only 24-48 hours. For optimal results, most patients get 3-6 total treatments, around 4-6 weeks apart.

What is acne scar treatment like?

The elōs Plus system’s powerful laser and radiofrequency energy combine to perform sublative skin rejuvenation. Using both of these technologies, the elōs Plus system heats the acne scars to a specific target temperature without damaging your healthy skin nearby.

This acne scar treatment destroys acne-causing bacteria and also prevents inflammation in the sebaceous glands where acne grows. The light also breaks down scar tissue, allowing your healthy skin beneath it to appear.

You may need anywhere from one to four treatment sessions to see results, depending on your specific skin.
