All about collagen

Collagen’s main jobs are to provide structure, strength, and support to tissues throughout your body.

Specific tasks include:

• Helping fibroblast cells grow in your dermis (middle skin layer), encouraging new cell production
• Replacing dead skin cells
• Providing a protective covering for all types of organs
• Giving strength and elasticity to your skin
• Helping your blood clot

At this point, researchers have detected 28 different forms of collagen. They’re different in how the molecules are assembled, the cell components added, and where the collagen is used in your body.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal filler injections are a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that restores lost volume related to lack of collagen and loss of subcutaneous fat. By restoring the skin’s support structure with a synthetic gel or other manufactured formulation, your face regains its tautness, and lines and wrinkles disappear.
