3 Treatments to Tighten Sagging Skin Without Surgery

It’s inevitable that, as you age, your skin develops fine lines and wrinkles and starts to sag. What isn’t inevitable is that you need to go under the knife to fix the problem.
At Pure Touch Skin Center, our team of master aestheticians understands that you may be embarrassed or uncomfortable with the sagging skin that comes with aging. That’s why we offer three treatment options: Forma, microneedling, and the Morpheus8 system, so you don’t have to live with them anymore.
Why does skin sag?
When you were a young adult, your skin was smooth and taut. That was because of, in large part, two fibrous proteins, collagen and elastin; together, they make your skin strong, plump, and flexible.
Unfortunately, by the time you reach 25, your body starts decreasing production of these proteins, and the stores that are left can be further depleted because of sun damage, smoking, and other environmental pollutants.
When you lose the proteins, you lose volume in your face and hands. This leads to hollows, fine lines, and wrinkles. These wrinkles are known as “static” wrinkles because they appear even when your face is at rest.
Over time, you also develop “dynamic” wrinkles; these come from repeated facial expressions. Whenever you move, the muscles that permit you to form expressions tug on the skin above them. Eventually, the skin can’t snap back to its original position, and a furrow forms.
Static wrinkles can temporarily be improved with injectable dermal fillers, while dynamic wrinkles can benefit from neurotoxins like Botox®.
3 treatments to tighten sagging skin without surgery
If you’re looking to tighten your skin and want more than just a temporary fix, we have three good options for you.
1. Forma
Forma is a nonsurgical skin tightening and elasticity treatment that can be used on both the face and neck and is safe for all skin types and tones.
It uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat up and destroy damaged skin layers, replacing them with a burst of new collagen and elastin cells. The device is auto-adjusting, so the temperature doesn’t rise high enough to harm surrounding tissue, and there’s no downtime associated with the treatment.
Patients usually need at least five treatments to see changes in the skin, but the waiting period between sessions is minimal, about two to three days.
Forma isn’t a permanent fix, but rather a maintenance program. You’ll see improvement after each session until you reach the level of maximum results. You can maintain those results with subsequent treatments scheduled less often or further apart.
2. Microneedling
Microneedling is also called “collagen induction therapy.” It involves the use of very small needles to puncture your skin’s surface, creating rows of “micro-injuries.” Your body responds in two ways: It sends healing and growth factors to the area to repair the wounds, and it jumpstarts collagen and elastin production to produce new tissue that replaces damaged skin layers. The result is smooth, healthy-looking skin.
At Pure Touch Skin Center, we use the FDA-approved SkinPen® system, a handheld device that stimulates wound healing while preventing collateral cellular damage.
The number of sessions depends on your aesthetic goals and usually falls between three to five. As a bonus, microneedling helps your skin absorb nourishing and rejuvenating serums and potions that can extend the length of improvements.
3. Morpheus8
Microneedling is a great treatment, but we take it to a new level with the Morpheus8. According to its manufacturer, Morpheus8 is a “minimally invasive facial and body fractional remodeling system.” It uses very small, insulated needles to penetrate deeper into the skin than most other systems reach.
The needles also deliver bursts of high-frequency RF energy into the micro wounds, which accelerates collagen and elastin production and the skin restructuring process. It also increases vascularization, bringing more nutrient-rich blood to the area. It’s safe for all skin types and poses little risk of hyperpigmentation, a common side effect of methods that use heat.
Like most therapies, you’ll probably need more than just one session; how many depends on the extent of your skin laxity and your aesthetic goals. The average patient needs from three to five sessions, with initial results starting to show after the second treatment. You can expect improvements to continue for up to six months after your final treatment, as collagen levels build.
